CURRENT MARKETS:  WEDNESDAYS & SATURDAYS 8 AM - 1 PM

The Santa Monica Farmers Markets have temporarily shifted from four weekly markets to two: Wednesdays and Saturdays on Arizona Ave & 2nd Streets.  Farmers from the two temporarily closed markets (Pico & Main Street) have been incorporated into the Saturday market.  These changes can help reduce customer trips to multiple market locations to access different products and vendors thereby reducing the risk for customers, vendors and staff to potentially be exposed to COVID-19. By shifting to the downtown market location, there is more space to physically distance and comply with LA County Public Health requirements.

Both markets continue offering CalFresh/EBT.  The Saturday market will additionally offer and Market Match for qualified shoppers, please visit the Markets Information booth located in the middle of the intersection at Arizona Ave. and 2nd Street, to process your transaction. The market's continuation of service also minimizes economic impacts to participating farmers, so they remain able to serve the market community in the months and years to come.

The City of Santa Monica is working closely with the Department of Public Health to monitor COVID-19 and local impacts.

As an essential service, the Farmers Markets will REMAIN OPEN as an option for shoppers to continue having access to fresh produce in an open setting while maximizing social distancing. All SMFMS will continue offering CalFresh/EBT for low income shoppers to access healthy produce and our Saturday market will continue to offer Market Match. The market's continuation of service will also minimize economic impacts to participating small farmers, so they remain able to serve the market community in the months and years to come.

WHEN VISITING THE MARKETS

We ask you follow this guidance if you visit the Santa Monica Farmers Markets

  1. Please DO NOT visit the Santa Monica Farmers Markets if you are ill, experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness, including fever and cough.

  2. Customers are requested to shop at the market only for essential food needs.

  3. Consider coordinating with neighbors to SEND ONE PERSON to purchase items for multiple individuals or families, especially those who are over the age of 65, have underlying health conditions, or are pregnant.

  4. To access the Downtown Farmers Market specific entry/exits points have been implemented, please enter on 2nd Street or Arizona Avenue at 3rd Court (see map above).  A limited number of customers will be allowed in the market at one time.
  5. Facial covering and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet or more are REQUIRED at all times.  City of Santa Monica FAQs re: Face CoveringsState of California June 18 Guidance for use of Face Coverings.

  6. Limit your time in the market to under 30 minutes, essential shopping only. DO NOT LINGER OR SOCIALIZE IN THE MARKET. Please shop and exit.

  7. When approaching market stalls, look for the painters tape on the ground indicating space to form a line. While we recommend only two customers per vendor at a time at most stalls, we’ve taped out blue lines at roomier and more popular spots to safely allow longer lines. If additional space isn’t taped out in a place for you to stand, then keep shopping and come back when there is..

  8. Do not touch produce, let vendors handle it for you.

  9. Wash your hands thoroughly and often.  Extra hand washing stations have been added throughout the markets.

  10. Wash produce upon returning home.

  11. To limit exposure, the Farmers Market strongly recommends exploring alternative ways farmers are selling their food (pre-order options, CSA boxes, shipping, and more)

  12. Visit the City's website for bus routes and adjacent parking availability.

  13. Stay calm, stay healthy and stay informed.

Market Hand Washing Options

Additional options for hand washing stations are available throughout each market in addition to plumbed restrooms in Parking Structure 4 on 2nd Street.

Will the SMFMS be Open?

The Santa Monica Farmers Markets are committed to serving the community and California Farmers.  The Santa Monica Farmers Markets will remain open provided that we can operate safely and in the best interest of public health, in accordance with the City of Santa Monica, County of Los Angeles Health Department and the California Department of Health.

Which Vendors are Participating?

FARMERS ONLY at this time.  Many of our regular farmers will be attending the SMFMS during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, due to the aging farmer population (average age of farmers in the US is over 57.5 ) and concern for personal exposure or that of their employees, some farmers have decided not to attend the markets. While we cannot promise to have up to the minute vendor attendance information available, when we can, we will post this information on our social media (Twitter/Facebook/Instagram: @SMFMS). Many of our farmers have their own social media accounts as well and will be providing updates regularly (click here to view our highlight real on Instagram for links to farmer accounts).

At this time our prepared and prepackaged food vendors, entertainers, activity providers and education programs are suspended.

What Products are Available at the Markets?

You will find California farmers selling edible products they grew including fresh fruit, vegetables, shelled nuts, dried fruit, dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs), meats (chicken, beef, lamb, goat, rabbit, duck), flowers, plants and seedlings, processed farm products (cured olives, olive oil, jams, juices, pickles, salsa, etc.).  Products very from market to market and are based on seasonality and weather conditions.

Do Farmers Offer CSA boxes, pre-order, pick-up or Online Ordering?

Many farmers have additional distribution channels.  Click HERE for the last information on where else you can purchase from our vendors or view the highlight real on our Instagram page HERE.

Can I use my EBT/CalFresh Card at the SMFMS?

Customers can continue to use their CalFresh/EBT benfits at all Santa Monica Farmers Markets to access healthy produce.  Please visit the market’s information booth to process your transaction.  Visit GetCalFresh.org to apply for benefits.  The State of California has authorized an emergency CalFresh benefit allotment for eligible households. Emergency CalFresh benefits for March will be issued on Sunday, April 12 and for April on Sunday, May 10. You may check your benefit balance online at HERE or on the DPSS Mobile App.

Fire and the Farmers Markets

The City of Santa Monica does not face a significant wildfire threat. Santa Monica can be impacted by secondary effects of wild land fires such as freeway closures, utility disruptions, and poor air quality.  Occasionally poor air quality necessitates the closure of the farmers markets to protect staff, vendors and customers.  To learn about market closures we recommend you utilize one of the following tools:
