Mission Statement

The Airport Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the Municipal Airport and to aviation matters generally to the extent that they affect the City.

The Airport Commission has five members, each serving a four-year term. Commissioners must be qualified electors of the City of Santa Monica and may not hold paid office or employment in the City government (SMMC City Charter Article X 1015).  The Airport Commission shall have power and be required to: (a) Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the Municipal Airport and to aviation matters generally to the extent that they affect the City; and (b) Consider and recommend City Council rules and regulations for the management and operation of the Municipal Airport. (Amended at General Municipal Election, November 7, 2006; certified by Res. No. 10187CCS)

  1.      Consent Calendar: All items will be considered and approved in one motion unless removed by a member for discussion.  

                a.  Approval of Minutes:  October 25, 2021 

                   b.  Commercial Operations Permits 

                     i)    Skyward Air, Inc. 

                ii)    Venice Post, LLC 


     4.     Airport Management Report  

             a.    Monthly Operations Report 

                    Information relating to aircraft operations, curfew departures, noise violations, and aircraft noise complaints received for the month of October 2021. 

             b.    Airport Leases 

                    This item is presented to the Airport Commission for information purposes only.  List of leases for Airport properties currently under consideration by the City. 

             c.    City of Santa Monica Boards, Commission, and Task Force Approved Recommendations 

                    Information relating to City Council approved recommendations and next steps. 

             d.    Next Airport Commission Meeting 

                    Cancellation of Regular December meeting (December 27, 2021). 

 

                    The next Airport Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 23, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. via teleconference. The agenda submittal deadline is January 16, 2022. 

      5.   Old Business  

            a.   Report by the Committee on Safety at SMO 

            Report by the ad hoc safety committee (which was formed at the October 26, 2020, meeting). 

            b Parks Master Plan 

            Discussion regarding the Parks Master Plan, which was scheduled to be made public on March 23, 2020, and presented to the Airport Commission at the April 7, 2020, meeting. 

            c.   Improving Bike and Pedestrian Access around SMO 

            Update regarding the status of the feasibility assessment for pedestrian and bike access road project. 

           d.   Lead in Aviation Fuel 

           Discussion and possible recommendation to Council regarding lead in aviation fuel.
