A new park is being planned for a 2.35 acre property located on the north side of Exposition Boulevard between Stewart Street and Dorchester Avenue. The park site is located adjacent to the future Expo Maintenance Facility that is currently under construction.
Following confirmation from the Council in support of the community’s preferred use of the buffer site as a park, Mia Lehrer & Associates was selected and the design process has been underway. Three community workshops were held in December 2012, March 2013 and May 2013 leading to the proposed schematic design which is based upon the community’s preferences for the park. The design responds to the linear shape of the site by emphasizing continuity while exploring the idea of small garden “rooms” for patrons to experience specific landscape and program elements focused on play, picnicking, contemplation, gathering, exercise and gardening.
City Council approved the park design in April 2014. Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2015, with project completion estimated by fall 2016.
