The City of Santa Monica, the Expo Construction Authority, Metro, and the consultant team Maintenance Design Group (MDG) are working together to ensure that the planned Expo Phase 2 Maintenance Facility is a good neighbor to the surrounding community. The design of the Maintenance Facility addresses community concerns related to noise, traffic, safety, light, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability.
MDG conducted a series of community workshops on the design of the Maintenance Facility from the summer of 2011 through the fall of 2012. The final design was reviewed at the September 2012 community workshop. Construction documents are targeted for completion in spring 2013, and construction is estimated to take place between summer 2013 and summer 2015.
A buffer park will be created adjacent to the maintenance facility to minimize visual and environmental impacts and provide community benefits. For information on the buffer park click here.
