Bus Stop Improvement Project

Project Information

Through the Bus Stop Improvement Project (BSIP), the Big Blue Bus enhanced its level of service by providing their riders with amenities at its stops, including canopies situated to maximize shade protection during the brightest times during the day; seating; trash and recycling cans; and bus route information.  Over the span of two years, the BBB enhanced roughly 215 stops within the City of Santa Monica.

The Big Blue Bus operates a fleet of 189 energy efficient vehicles, transporting more than 70,000 passengers a day across its 51-square mile service area. Nationally recognized for its long-standing commitment to a cleaner environment, the entire fleet operates on compressed natural gas (CNG) from non-fracked methane harvested from organic waste in landfills, which helps cut emissions by over 80 percent.

Construction start date: March 31, 2014
