Rents for all new tenancies must be registered with the Rent Control Board within 30 days of the start of the tenancy. Property owners who fail to register a tenancy are not permitted to pass through rent increases otherwise allowed due to annual general adjustments. Late registration may result in a property owner being served with a Complaint for Non-Registration and/or Excess Rent Receipt and Retention.
This form is required to register rent levels for new tenancies. Rather than requiring you to print the form and mail it or bring it to the Rent Control office, you may now submit Tenancy Registration forms online here. You will be able to save a copy of the form you submit, and we will email you confirmation that your form was received. If you have multiple forms to file for the same property or with the same owner information, just click your back browser after you submit a form. The information you entered will be retained. Do not use this form to register rents established pursuant to a Section 8 contract. If you have trouble registering online or make a mistake, please email Rent Control for assistance or call 310-458-8751. Remember, if you are registering a tenancy that began 7/31/2017 or after, you must give the new tenant the Rent Control Information Sheet and indicate you did so on the Tenancy Registration form.
