How Santa Monica is Addressing Homelessness

The City of Santa Monica is dedicated to preventing and addressing homelessness in our community. Our collaborative approach spans prevention, outreach, permanent housing, transitional housing and shelter, and supportive services. Together, we are working to address homelessness in our city. In November 2017, after reviewing the Addressing Homelessness Staff Report that was prepared by multiple city departments, Santa Monica City Council approved a series of new investments to address homelessness. The action plan, part of the City of Santa Monica's Strategic Goals, focuses on proactive outreach to connect homeless individuals with services, preventing people from becoming homeless, and activating city and community stakeholders to address issues together.

Santa Monica Homeless Count

This nation-wide Point-in-Time Homeless Count and Survey occurs annually, the last week of January.  The Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is the largest in the United States. The Count collects information on the number of individuals and families who are living in shelters or on the streets. The count and demographic survey give a snapshot of who is experiencing homelessness and where they are located and measures progress towards ending homelessness.
