Arts Transportation Grant Program

The City of Santa Monica Arts Transportation Grant Program provides access to arts and culture activities throughout Los Angeles County. Any Santa Monica school or nonprofit organization wishing to visit a cultural destination in L.A. County may apply for reimbursement of transportation costs. Trips must take place between October 1, 2018 and June 12, 2019.

Applications are available here and will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are depleted.

Grant funds may be used only to reimburse the transportation costs of bringing Santa Monica students and residents to cultural destinations such as performing arts venues and museums. Destinations must be accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Albuquerque Aerial 1

Support for this program comes from the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Proposition A Local Return funds. The MTA requires that program services be made available to all members of the public in an age-appropriate manner, not limited to a specific group. For example, a third grade class trip to the Getty Museum must reasonably accommodate any third grader in Santa Monica who requests a seat (if seats are available). All excursions approved in this program are listed on the Cultural Affairs website with contact information so that a parent from another school may reserve a place for a child to participate in the funded activity.

Questions about this program should be directed to Nathan Birnbaum,

Albuquerque Aerial 3

Applications are now available here. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis -- first come, first served, until program funds are depleted.

“Pursuing Green Office Certification”

To assist in the efforts of creating a sustainable city, Cultural Affairs not only recognizes the importance of incorporating the City’s sustainable design in its projects, but also values its role in creating a healthy work environment for staff that supports the City’s sustainability policies and models sustainable best practices for the office place.

Cultural Affairs is continuously working towards implementing sustainable practices that will provide staff with a greener and healthier workplace. We have implemented simple practices such as purchasing supplies that will have less impact on the environment, using less-toxic cleaning products, reducing waste, practicing water efficiency, and promoting green commuting by ride-sharing, walking and providing staff with a Bike@Work bicycle.

Cultural Affairs' Green Office Certification is modeled after the Santa Monica Green Business Certification Program, a free program that provides sustainability consultation services to businesses that operate in Santa Monica.
