Glow was the first all-night arts event in the United States to highlight the commissioning of light-based artwork. It transformed the beach in Santa Monica into a world of interactive and engaging contemporary art installations in 2008, 2010 and 2013. The event attracted between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors each year to Santa Monica Beach during the course of one night. After the last Glow, Santa Monica Cultural Affairs reviewed the event's structure and format, which ultimately led to an evaluation of the future of festivals and arts events in the City. At this time, we are focusing on smaller-scale arts events that align with City priorities, such as activating neighborhoods and public spaces, creating a new model for mobility and environmental sustainability.
