Santa Monica Main Public Library

The Santa Monica Main Library (601 Santa Monica Blvd.) occupying 104,000 SF over two floors, was designed to provide a bright and open structure offering patrons a facility that incorporates cutting-edge building technology coupled with environmentally responsible design features, construction materials and methods. The Main Library houses the Martin Luther King Auditorium, two public meeting rooms, a large children’s collection and an activity room, a spacious reading room with lounges and reading tables, offers 95 computers to the public for Public Internets, and e-source stations with word processing, the “BookMark” Café in the courtyard, and is the home of the Santa Monica History Museum.

Other significant features of this facility are the raised floor system, central courtyard with Café, water feature and public art, state of the art book check technology, drought tolerant landscaping and water harvesting Cistern.

The project received LEED Gold Rating from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) exceeding the LEED Silver standard that the City has made as a goal for all municipal buildings.
