Santa Monica is a walk friendly community. Our residents value walking in the neighborhoods and visitors travel from all over the world to walk on the Pier, beach and shop. Santa Monica takes preserving the ability to walk places and the need to do so safely seriously. The adoption of the 2010 Land Use and Circulation Element launched efforts to study the walking experience in Santa Monica and create an action plan for improving pedestrian facilities and encouraging walking as a healthy life style choice through well designed engaging public rights of way.
