Building, Structure, & Object Record

The American Colonial Revival style inspired the design of this large church building that was erected in1950. There appear to be no visible alterations to the building since it was last evaluated in the 1994 survey. The property is a good example of a traditional, American Colonial Revival style church that was common to cities throughout the United States prior to the dominance of Modern architecture in ecclesiastical design starting in the 1950s. In Santa Monica, Spanish-inspired church buildings were more prevalent prior to the Second World War. Although the property does not appear to be individually eligible for listing in the National Register or California Register, it continues to appear eligible for listing as a City of Santa Monica Structure of Merit. Note: Previous surveys gave this property a 1001 California Avenue address.
