Preparedness for Kids

The Office of Emergency Management wants you to prepare your parents, friends and pets for the unexpected.

Planning for an emergency is a simple as 1-2-3!

Step 1 Get an emergency kit

Do you have a favorite sweater or pair of socks?  Put them in your emergency preparedness kit.

You can even put candy in your kit!  Just be sure to include some of the essentials, like water, food, a first aid kit, a flashlight and batteries.

Decide with your family on a good place to store the kit and you are one step closer to being prepared.

Step 2 Have a plan

We talk to our friends and family everyday, right?  Right!

So today, have a conversation with your family about what you would do, or where you should go if a disaster occurs.

Write down some important phone numbers and store them in a place where everyone in your family can find them.  Include the number of a family friend or relative that lives out of the area.

Step 3 Stay Informed

How do you get your information?  Do you listen to the radio?  Watch the news?  Facebook or Twitter?
