Santa Monica Gets Ready

Be a partner and make Santa Monica the most resilient community in Southern California.

The Office of Emergency Management is developing partnerships with businesses to better prepare for response and recovery in emergencies and incidents that may impact Santa Monica.

By participating in our MOU program, partners will share key off hour contact information to be used in the event of emergencies.  This will allow for a faster response and recovery of systems, services, and facilities.  Vendors can enter into agreements with the City to provide goods and services at a "fair market rate" in the event of emergencies.

To view this agreement, click on the image below and for more information, contact the Emergency Services Coordinator, Paul Weinberg at (310) 458-8686.

MOU

The high price of not being prepared

•Companies that do not resume operations at some level within ten days of a disaster
     are not likely to survive.

•Of businesses that experience a disaster and have no emergency plan, 43% percent never
reopen; of those that do reopen, only 29% are still operating two years later.

•43% of companies that suffer a catastrophic data loss never reopen.

Plan to stay in business after a disaster.

Preparedness Training for Businesses

CPR/AED & First Aid Training

Teach employees to save lives!  A person suffering a heart attack has only minutes to live.  Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation can buy extra time until an AED (Automated External Defribrilator) is located or professional responders arrive.

First aid skills are crucial for a workplace environment as cuts, scrapes, burns and fractures are all likely to be encountered after an earthquake or other type of disaster.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)

CERT is a community based group of volunteers that have completed a federally recognized training course taught by Public Safety personnel and First Responders.  The training is a comprehensive program detailing ways to assist friends, family, co-workers and community in small or large scale disaster.  This training is free and open to anyone over the age of 18 that lives or works in Santa Monica.  The typical training schedule is three consecutive Saturdays with plans to create a hybrd schedule of some weeknights combined with one or two weekend dates.

CERT components include:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Fire Safety
  • Light Search and Rescue
  • CERT Team Organization
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • Terrorism
  • Disaster Psychology
