Ishihara Park

Opened to the public in February 2017, Ishihara Park is a linear community park named after George Ishihara, a local resident who fought in the Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War ll. The 2.35 acre park site was formerly used as a parking lot and site for utility buildings. With the construction of a new Metro maintenance facility across from a residential neighborhood, the park in intended to provide a visual and environmental shield for the nearby residents from the facility and its active rail operations.

  • Accessible play and exercise equipment (playground includes swing, teeter-totter, merry-go-round, sand area and sculptural boulder)

  • The Learning Garden, a communal spot to learn and acquire gardening skills, and grow citrus, herbs and vegetables

  • Bike track and natural log play for kids
  • Free City Wi-Fi

Gardening 101 at the Learning Garden (limited capacity)

Sunday, July 16, 9am-11am, FREE

Enjoy Four (4) 30-Minute Gardening 101 discussions, ranging in topics from seasonal produce to composting to container gardening. Sessions start every 30 minutes beginning at 9am. All attendees will receive a planting pot, soil and seeds to get started. Materials are limited. RSVP at
