Community Events

Santa Monica's parks and beach are popular spots for events of all sizes. The Community Events Office will help you understand the City's rules and permitting process for use of these public spaces for your next event. 

A City event permit may be required for:

  • Parades, processions, or other assemblies on public property that may obstruct traffic
  • Events with 150+ attendees held on public property (75 on the Third Street Promenade)
  • Any other event held on public property requiring a tent, canopy, or other temporary structure requiring a permit from the City's Fire Department or Building & Safety Division

Event permits are issued by the City's Community Events Office. The application, review, and approval process varies by event type.
