Beach Park 1

2600 Barnard Way at Ocean Park Blvd. (Map)

This beachfront park is located between Hart Avenue and Hill Street on the beach side of Barnard Way. In the center of the park is a large paved plaza aligned with the end of Ocean Park Boulevard. The plaza has a double alley of dramatic palm trees, rows of bollards and is bookended by Michele Oka Doner’s “Wave and Shell Obelisks” and Joyce Kohl’s “Ocean Park Seque” sculptures. The plaza area, paths, turf and picnic areas were designed in 1985 by Campbell and Campbell. The park features several open grassy areas, rows of picnic tables, a Children’s playground and a public restroom. In 2010, City Council dedicated Beach Park #1 in honor of environmentalist Dorothy Green.
