Tennis Courts


The tennis courts at Reed Park, Ocean View Park, and at Memorial Park are open for first-come, first-served singles play from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week. Tennis courts at Colorado Center Park are available for reservation on for singles play only from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., 7 days a week.Tennis courts at Colorado Center Park are open for first-come, first-served singles play from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., 7 days a week.

  • No reservations will be taken. Please comply with physical distancing requirements posted by businesses and recreational facilities:
  • Maintain physical distancing of six feet at all times.
  • Bring your own racket and balls. Write your initials on each ball and only handle your own tennis balls.
  • Limit play to one hour
  • Recreational play only, no instruction
  • Wear a face mask at all times, except during play.
  • No group gatherings allowed.
  • Wash hands frequently.

Tennis Courts Available by Advanced Fee Reservations

  • Santa Monica residents that purchase a Resident Reservation Card will have priority. 
  • Residents can purchase a Reservation card at by clicking on the memberships tab
  • Reed Park – 6 lighted courts located at 7th & Wilshire Blvd
  • Ocean View Park – 6 non-lighted courts located at 2600 Bernard Way (1 block south of Ocean Park Blvd.) Reservations available year round on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday reservations available during the summer season only (Memorial Day through Labor Day.)
  • Resident card holders can make reservations online at by clicking on the reservations tab

Courts may be reserved for Group or Individual Lessons/Programs/Events. See Tennis Court Rules of Etiquette below.

Tennis Courts Available for Free, Drop-In, Non-reserved Use

  • Clover Park(2 lighted courts located at 25th and Ocean Park Blvd)
    Daily 8:00am to 10:00pm

  • Douglas Park (2 lighted courts located at 25th and Wilshire Blvd)
    Daily 8:00am to 10:00pm

  • Los Amigos Park (1 lighted court located at 6th and Hollister Ave. (Court is available only when school classes or sponsored programs are not in session which is usually on weekdays after 6pm or all day on weekends.)
    8:00am to 10:00pm weekends only
    (Court is also available when school classes or sponsored programs are not in session, usually on weekdays after 6:00pm

  • Marine Park (3 lighted courts located at 17th and Marine St.)
    Daily 8:00am to 10:00pm

  • Memorial Park (4 lighted courts located at 14th and Olympic Blvd.)
    Daily 8:00am to 10:00pm

  • Santa Monica High School – 7 non-lighted courts available during the following hours unless closed for maintenance, school use, school holidays, City programs, or permitted use.
    • Monday-Friday during the school year 6pm–dusk.
    • Monday-Friday during school breaks 8am–dusk.
    • Saturdays year round 7am-dusk.
    • Sundays year round 8am-dusk.

A permit is required for instructional or group use of SAMOHI courts.

Tennis Courts at Colorado Center (2500 Broadway)

TRIFIT features two outdoor courts in Colorado Center Park. Courts are currently available for singles play only. Private instruction is not permitted.

These courts are NOT City courts, but per a development agreement with the City, they are open to the public. Courts are available for $3/hour with quarterly pass option for Santa Monica residents. Visit to book.  For more information, please call 310.829.2227

City-Sponsored Group Lessons

City-sponsored group lessons are offered year-round. For more information about lessons, call 310.458.2239 or visit to view and register for current classes.

City-Sponsored Tennis Tournaments

The city conducts three tournaments officially sanctioned by the Southern California Tennis Association each year. Results are used to establish rankings.

Santa Monica Senior Open Tennis Championships - held over the long President’s Day weekend. The tournament hosts men’s and women’s divisions in age categories from 30 years old through 90 years old Sanctioned by the USTA and SCTA.

Santa Monica Dudley Cup Tennis Tournament – Held annually during Spring Break.  The tournament is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Southern California. This tournament usually hosts more than 200 junior tennis players from all over Southern California.

Santa Monica Open Tennis Championships – Held annually during the last two weeks of August culminating on Labor Day Weekend.  Open and Satellite Level competition offered for boys and girls ages 8 -18.   The Adult NTRP level tournament is based on players rating as determined by the SCTA and the Open level tournament is open to all players. Both adult tournaments host men’s and women’s divisions as well as a mixed doubles division. 

Community Based Tennis Organizations & Programs

Santa Monica Tennis Club – A non-profit community organization provides year round social and competitive tennis opportunities. Activities include tournaments, Sunday drop-in play, tennis ladders, trips, rating clinics, and team tennis programs. For more information, call 310.208.6882

Tennis Patrons of Santa Monica – promotes tennis in the community. They provide instruction at selected local elementary public schools and a Saturday Team Tennis program. For more information, call 310.458.3009

National Junior Tennis & Learning – The United States Tennis Association in cooperation with the City of Santa Monica provides a series of low cost group tennis instruction classes designed to introduce this lifetime sport to youth ages 7 through 17.  A six-week session of instruction is offered during the summer months.

Southern California Tennis Association – Section chapter of United States Tennis Association.  Promotes a wide range of tennis programs, events, training/certification programs and education for youth and adults.  Main office is located at the UCLA Tennis Stadium.  For more information, call 310.208.3838

The Tennis Reservation Office is located at Reed Park (7th & Wilshire)


Tennis Reservation Office Hours:
  • Monday-Thursday    8:00am – 9:00pm
  • Friday                       8:00am – 7:00pm
  • Saturday & Sunday  8:00am – 6:00pm


Resident Annual Reservation Card

Santa Monica Residents may purchase an annual tennis Reservation Card ($13).  Card holders may reserve courts up to three days in advance.  This membership does not include any court fees, however, it does allow the holder to purchase a quarterly pass.

A driver’s license or government-issued photo ID and a current utility bill are required to verify residency.

Same Day Reservations

Non-residents or residents who do not have a Reservation Card (see above) my reserve a court on the same day of play.

Court Fees

$4.00 per person per hour for residents. $5.00 per person per hour for non-residents.


Resident Quarterly Pass

Quarterly passes allow resident cardholders the opportunity to play free of charge for up to two hours per day.  Players must have a reservation card to purchase a Quarterly Pass.


Resident Quarterly Pass Fees:

Youth (17 years and under)    $20.00

Adult (18 years to 59 years)  $60.00

Senior (60 years and over)    $20.00


Private Tennis Instruction

Independent private and semi-private tennis instructors may register to teach on City courts during designated times. Courts must be reserved/permitted and paid for in advance at a cost of $15.00 per hour for 1-2 students; and at a cost of $25 per hour for 3 – 4 students. All group lessons and tennis camps are conducted through the City’s Community Classes Program. Private/Semi-private Instructors must present proof of a current City of Santa Monica Business License and a copy of their liability insurance prior to issuance of an Instructor Permit.

Tennis Etiquette Rules

  • Ethics of tennis and sportsmanship shall prevail for the safety and enjoyment of all players.
  • No hard soled or dark soled shoes are allowed on the courts.
  • No more than six balls are allowed on the court.
  • Promotional materials of any form are prohibited on courts without prior approval.
  • Players must abide by the decision of Park Rangers or site staff regarding the interpretation of any rules governing the use of the courts.
  • Tennis instruction of any kind requires an official permit. Violators are subject to prosecution.
  • Inline, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, soccer balls, etc. are not permitted at any time on the courts.
  • Dogs are not allowed on the courts except for service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability.
When other players are waiting:
  • You may play one set with no more than a five minute warm-up or you may rally for a total of thirty minutes.
  • If you are currently playing a set, you must complete the set then forfeit the court.
  • One person cannot hold the tennis court when two or more people are waiting.
