Marine Park Playground Upgrade

The Marine Park Playground Upgrade Project proposes to replace the existing 20-year-old playground at Marine Park with an inclusive, universally accessible playground. Project improvements would include:

  • Replacement of the existing traditional play equipment with inclusive play equipment;
  • Replacement of the existing sand and rubber safety surface with new rubber safety surface throughout;
  • Improved access between the on-site surface parking, restrooms, and playground; and
  • Pedestrian amenities, including shade structures and seating.

The improvements are funded by local Parks and Recreation Impact Fee revenues and state Proposition 68 per capita program funding.

Marine Park Community Garden Proposed Plan

The City of Santa Monica’s Community Garden Program currently operates 4 community gardens throughout our great city. The interest in participating has continued to outpace our availability, creating a waitlist for plots that exceed 600 residents with wait times 7-8 years from the application date. We have investigated locations to expand our program, looking to create spaces for those desiring to grow some of their own fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The western edge of Marine Park has been identified as an appropriate location, and we would like to gauge the community’s interest in creating a space that would enhance Marine Park and provide an opportunity to grow our community garden program, which as the numbers show, has great interest from our residents.

The Proposed Plan (see link below) would have raised beds and would call for some to be individual plots rented out to residents currently on the waitlist, and a few areas that would serve as a Shared Gardening Space, allowing residents not on the waitlist to participate in the gardening program. We hope you’ll complete the survey below to help us gauge the interest in this project.
