Noise Inquiries and Flight Tracking

To help community members interested in learning about flight operations and noise levels in their area, Santa Monica Airport implemented Webtrak, a new web-based app which gives stakeholders the ability to perform flight investigations from a personal computer or mobile device. The app enables the community to visualize actual flight tracks and noise levels around the Airport, investigate aircraft related noise events, as well as reporting specific aircraft directly to the Airport’s Noise Office.

Flight tracks have a delay of approximately 45 minutes due to data processing.

Noise Inquiries and Aviation Related Information

Noise inquiries and aviation-related complaints can be filed online using Flight Tracking WebTrak

Helicopter Noise Complaint Hotline

On March 31, 2015, the FAA announced the inauguration of a new centralized helicopter noise complaint system for residents in Los Angeles County, including the Santa Monica area. The Automated Complaint System (ACS), which is operated by an FAA vendor, enables residents to file complaints and identify those causing extensive noise.

Noise complaints can be registered in two ways:

The FAA will obtain a year's worth of data from the complaint/tracking system.  This is designed as a research tool and will not result in citations or penalties for pilots of excessively loud helicopters.  The information will help the FAA to identify patterns and trends in helicopter operations, improve their understanding of community reaction to helicopter noise, and inform future efforts to develop and implement noise abatement measures.  The noise complaint hotline/website is part of the Los Angeles Helicopter Noise Initiative, an ongoing effort by the FAA, community groups, helicopter operators, and residents.

Reliability of Radar Information

Flight and aircraft radar data originate from the FAA’s local terminal radars, en route radars, ADS-B and other surveillance resources. The intended use of this Web site is to display the general location and flow of air traffic in the greater Santa Monica/Los Angeles region. PublicVue information is not intended for navigational purposes or airline schedule information.
