alley or business to the Santa Monica Community Recycling Center and Transfer
Station. These operations divert thousands of tons of material away from
landfills, helping to
complete the
reduce, reuse
and recycle circle.

The Santa Monica Community Recycling Center buys and sorts cans, glass and plastic,
as well as paper products and cardboard. See

- Cans – aluminum, steel
- Glass – bottles and jars
- Plastic – plastic bottles, food containers, shopping bags. Numbers 1-7,
no styrofoam
- Mixed Paper: newsprint, phone books, catalogs, copy paper, cardboard,
chip board, etc.

The Santa Monica Refuse Transfer Station is a full-service waste disposal and
material recovery facility. The service is available to residents and
non-residents alike for a fee, with the
exception of scrap metal, which is a
free service. All fees are calculated by ton and pro-rated to the pound. Materials
accepted include:

Hours of operation are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
They are closed Saturday and Sunday.
Clean asphalt and concrete, minimal metal mesh/rebar. 3% maximum sand and dirt
can be mixed with asphalt/concrete.
