Voter & Election Information994 - Voter Registration Requirements To register to vote in the City of Santa Monica, you must be both a legal resident of the city and a United States citizen. You must be at least 18 years old on or before Election Day in order to vote. Voter registration forms are available at Santa Monica City Hall or at any branch of the Santa Monica Public Library. Simply fill out this form and drop it in a mailbox. You must register at least 15 days in advance of an election to be eligible to vote in that election. Special evening and weekend voter registration hours are also scheduled a few weeks prior to each election. For more information on special registration hours, please call the City Clerk's Office at (310) 458-8211 during regular business hours. After hours and on weekends, you may leave a message and your request will be handled on the next business day. Your registration is permanent unless you move out of your precinct or fail to vote at least once in four consecutive years. All registered voters who move or change their names must notify the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder either in person or in writing of any change in name or address at least 15 days before any election. Failure to do this promptly may make you ineligible to vote. If you vote at least once in a 4-year period and always keep a current address, you will remain registered and qualified to vote. For more information on voter registration and residency requirements, please visit www.smgov.net, or call the City Clerk's Office at (310) 458-8211, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on alternate Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You may also contact the County Registrar-Recorder's Office at (562) 462-2748.
