School Information882 - School Resource Police Officer The Santa Monica Police Department recognizes the importance of maintaining a good working relationship with all citizens, including youth. The police department has developed a School Resource Officer Program to provide service for all school age youth with exclusive access to a police officer. The School Resource Officer, assigned to the police department's Youth Services Division has the liaison responsibility for all of Santa Monica 's schools, ranging from preschool age to college level. While on the campus, the officer has a wide variety of responsibilities. The officer expertise provides school staff and administrators with training in juvenile law and intervention. This program also provides numerous educational programs for youth, such as, police careers, criminal law, vehicle code education and personal safety. The officer is also responsible for establishing a positive police presence on campus and in the areas near each school. This police presence working in conjunction with school administrators and campus security helps deter trespassers or non-students from coming on campus, thus avoiding potential problems. Most importantly, it gives each student, teacher, school administrator and parents, access to a police officer that they may feel comfortable with and can get to know. The program creates a liaison between the citizens of Santa Monica, the Santa Monica schools and the members of the Santa Monica Police Department. For more information on this program, or to talk with a School Resource Officer directly, please call (310) 458-8938. After hours, you may leave a message and your call will be returned on the next business day.
