542 - Retrofit Upon Sale

The City of Santa Monica's Retrofit Upon Sale Ordinance requires any property -- single-family, multi-family or commercial -- to be certified as being equipped with water efficient plumbing fixtures. Certificates may be requested by calling the city's toll free Bay Saver Program Hotline at (866) 728-3229.

Every bathroom must be equipped with the following fixtures:

• Ultra low flow flush toilets that use a maximum of 1.6 gallons per flush.
• Urinals that use a maximum of 1 gallon per flush.
• Showerheads that emit a maximum of 2.5 gallons per minute.
• Faucets that emit a maximum of 2.5 gallons per minute.
• Residential reverse osmosis water filtration systems must be equipped with shut-off valves.
