Community Events, Activities & Attractions432 - Santa Monica Pier & Carousel The world-famous Santa Monica Pier offers great fun for the entire family. Take a walk along the Pier, stroll through the gift shops, visit the restaurants, or be adventurous and ride the giant Ferris wheel at Pacific Park to get a panoramic view of the coastline. Visitors of all ages enjoy the merry-go-round horses at our historic Carousel. Fishing is available on three fishing decks. Many attractions are open at night, especially during the summer, and live entertainment is featured in some of the restaurants. The Twilight Dance Series, which runs on Thursday nights from the beginning of July through early September, is a particular favorite of residents and visitors alike. The Pier is open year-round, though hours vary by season for the entertainment venues. Pacific Park, which offers free admission, pay as you go rides and facility rentals for private parties, operates all year long, as well. The hours vary, however, so it is best to call the park for information before you plan your visit. The number to call is 260-8744. The Carousel's schedule is also variable by season, however, rides cost only 50 cents for children and $1 for adults. Children under 6 are free with a ticketed adult. PIER PARKING & TIDE SHUTTLE To reach the Pier from the Santa Monica Freeway traveling west, exit at 4th Street and turn left. Turn right on Colorado Avenue and proceed to the Pier Parking Lot. If the lot is full, head south on Ocean Avenue . Proceed two blocks to Seaside Terrace and turn right. Follow the signs for Pier and Beach Parking. Summer parking on the Pier deck is $7 on weekdays and $8 on the weekends. During the winter, the parking rate is $1 per hour up to $6 dollar maximum and $7 on weekends. Parking near the beach to the north of the Pier is $5-7 dollars. The Tide Shuttle, which operates Sunday through Thursday from noon to 8:00 p.m. and until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, makes stops throughout Downtown and will drop you off at the Pier entrance.
