348 – Social Services Commission

The Social Services Commission's primary responsibility and allegiance is to all the residents of the City of Santa Monica, and consistent with this policy, it is committed to an ongoing dialogue with the city’s non-vocal and under-represented population base, giving their concerns as much validity as those of other commissions, agencies and other vested interest groups.

The commission reviews the City Manager's proposed budget for social services and makes recommendations to the City Council. It also schedules periodic hearings to determine the unmet social service needs of the residents of the city, and prepares an annual assessment for the City Council on the extent to which agencies and programs of the City and County of Los Angeles and other entities are achieving goals and objectives for social services

The Social Services Commission consists of nine members who serve four-year terms. It meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Ken Edwards Center, 1527 Fourth Street in Santa Monica.
