City Council, Boards & Commissions318 - Boards and Commissions - Contacts and Information There are currently some 130 volunteers serving on 20 boards and commissions for the City of Santa Monica. These committees were created either by the City Council or by City Charter. The responsibilities, powers, terms of office, membership size, qualifications, and meeting schedule vary for each board and commission. In addition, task forces or working groups are established by Council from time to time to deal with specific issues. Citizens who are interested in serving their community are nominated and appointed by the City Council as vacancies arise. These vacancies are advertised in a variety of ways, including postings in City Hall, on CityTV, on the city's website, in the city newsletter, Seascape, and in the LA Times, as well as other outlets. For information about the duties and responsibilities of the boards and commissions, and how to apply for a position on one of them, please contact the City Clerk's office at (310) 458-8211, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on alternate Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours and on weekends, you may leave a message and your call will be returned the next business day. Agendas, directories and charters for city boards and commissions are available at smgov.net/cityclerk/boards.
