296– Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Santa Monica 's Community Programs Division offers numerous volunteer opportunities. Whether you volunteer to make a personal contribution, or because you are building a work history, we can use your help. Perhaps you'd prefer an office assignment at one of our City locations, or you'd like to work with a specific population or special event. There are many opportunities to participate. Whichever you choose, your support counts!

We invite you to join us in our challenging and meaningful work. Please visit our website at volunteer.smgov.net or call our office at (310) 458-8300.  Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and alternate Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You may also leave a message after hours and on weekends and your call will be returned on the next business day.

High school students fulfilling their community service requirements are encouraged to apply.

You may also call WISE America Reads at 394-9871, extension 452, to be a volunteer tutor and/or homework helper for reading, writing, and/or math. WISE America Reads sends volunteer tutors in to the Santa Monica elementary schools and to city after school programs to support children’s success in school. All volunteers receive orientation and training in basic techniques for tutoring elementary age children (ages 6-11) in reading and writing. WISE staff then helps to place you in the optimal tutoring situation to fit your schedule. Those 55 and over are encouraged to apply, but all ages are welcome.
