284 – Immunizations
Immunizations are shots or vaccines given to prevent deadly diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, polio and measles. Most children need to begin the series of vaccinations two months after birth to be properly protected, and continue shots on a schedule. Because prevention is so important, proof of vaccination against these diseases is required before attending public school in California . For an appointment or more information, call the Venice Family Clinic at 392-8636, or call the Westside Family Health Center at
(310) 450-2191.
The Healthy Families Program offers low cost insurance for children and teens up to age 19. It provides health, dental and vision coverage to children who meet the program rules and do not qualify for free Medi-Cal. If you have questions, call 1-800-880-5305, or visit
www.healthyfamilies.ca.gov.
Overseas immunizations are special vaccinations required in order to travel to certain countries. Check with your doctor, or call the 24-hour National Immunization Hotline recording at (800) 232-2522 for more information.
