The over-population of unwanted animals is a serious problem throughout our country. Consequently, the State of California requires that all dogs or cats be spayed or neutered upon their adoption. As of July 1, 2007, the adoption fee for a dog ranges from $33 to $54, and from $23 to $33 for a cat. When spay or neuter surgery is required, a reduced-cost fee for this procedure is collected, for an additional charge ranging from $40 to $130.

If you own a dog or cat that needs to be spayed or neutered, the Animal Shelter offers vouchers to Santa Monica residents to help defray the expense. Call the Animal Shelter at (310) 458-8595 or visit us on-line at at santamonicapd.org for further information.
