190 - Loud and Barking Dogs
Dogs that bark excessively are a daily problem in our city, particularly in warm weather when windows are open. Barking dog complaints are taken seriously and are investigated by Santa Monica Animal Control officers.
Neighbors and others disturbed by such dogs are an integral part of abating such problems. Owners of dogs that continually bark for more than five minutes during any one-hour period are subject to prosecution. A conviction for a violation can result in a fine up to $1,000 and up to six months in County Jail.
In addition to being against the law, it is extremely inconsiderate
for an owner to ignore the peace and quiet needs of their neighbors. If
it is your dog that is barking and creating a problem for others, please
call the Animal Shelter at (310) 458-8595 during regular business hours
for information on steps you may take to cure the problem. To report a
barking dog nuisance, please call the same number. |
