180 - Animal Emergencies

If you should find a sick or injured animal whose owner is unknown or unavailable, please call the Santa Monica Animal Shelter during its business hours at (310) 458-8595. You should also use this number to report an animal bite. For after hours emergencies, please call the Santa Monica Police Dispatcher at (310) 458-8491. (Refer to Message No. 192 for shelter hours, or visit our website at santamonicapd.org.)

If your own pet is sick or injured, please check the yellow pages under "veterinarian," or, for after hours animal emergencies, check the yellow pages listing for "veterinary emergency services."

Dogs or cats left in cars in the heat of the day may suffer from heat stroke, and even death. If you see a pet in a locked car in direct sunlight on a warm day, call (310) 458-8595. Owners of such animals are subject to prosecution for animal cruelty.
