CIVIC AUDITORIUM
INFORMATION ON-LINE

The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium has a new on-line presence at santamonicacivicauditorium.org Opened in 1958, the Civic Auditorium has design features that make it an unusually flexible entertainment venue. The new website communicates the unique capabilities of the auditorium with detailed information on the facility, event booking procedures, available services, community links, and-- for the rest of us--coming events and directions to the auditorium. Visually stunning with animated graphics and dynamic navigation, it is also designed to be accessible to people with a variety of disabilities, including cognitive and visual impairments.

COMMUNITY EVENTS WEBSITE

Parade

Are you planning an event in a Santa Monica public space (parks, beaches, beach lots, streets, etc.)? Will you need an event permit? What sites are available? How do you apply? How much will it cost? The answers to these questions and more are all at santa-monica.org/ccs/events. This site is designed with most of the same technical and access features as the Civic Auditorium site and it's the place to get an event permit application and learn more about the event permit process.

FIND POST-ELECTION
RESULTS ON-LINE

COMMEMORATIVE BOOK MARKS
ARTS COMMISSION'S 20TH ANNIVERSARY

The Santa Monica Arts Commission marked twenty years of service in October with the publication of Twenty 02: Twenty Years of the Arts Commission, commemorating its contributions to the community through the past two decades. Essays by and interviews with local leaders commenting on the city's cultural growth are featured in Twenty 02 alongside a series of striking black-and-white photographs by three prominent local photographers, Anne Fishbein, John Humble and Anthony Friedkin.

Commissioned to document the arts in Santa Monica, the photographs in Twenty 02 offer an arresting view of the breadth of offerings available to residents and visitors:

Anne Fishbein captures the atmosphere of this seaside city, portraying Richard Turner's Santa Monica Urban Runoff Reclamation Facility (SMURRF) Project and the historic Miles Playhouse with soft-edged elegance and intimate, subtle compositions.

John Humble records the city's vibrant spirit in his views of the Third Street Promenade's playful Dinosaurs of Santa Monica fountains by Claude and Francoise LaLanne. Humble also pays tribute to the stark power of familiar Santa Monica icons such as Eugene Monrahan's WPA sculpture Saint Monica.

Anthony Friedkin's work focuses on performance in Santa Monica, with glimpses of children participating in Santa Monica Festival activities, actors from the Buffalo Night's production of J.B. caught behind the scenes, and renowned performance artist and former Arts Commissioner, Tim Miller.

Copies of Twenty 02 were presented to Santa Monica City Council members during an outdoor reception on Saturday, October 26 at the Miles Memorial Playhouse. The book is also being distributed to schools and libraries in the city, and selected photographs will be permanently included in the city's Art Bank collection and displayed in the Miles Playhouse.
