The Economic Development Division acts as a liaison to significant merchant and special business improvement districts such as the Third Street Promenade and the Bayside District Corporation, The Pier Restoration Corporation, Main Street Merchants Association, Montana Avenue Association, Pico Improvement Organization, and the Westside Small Business Development Center. The Division also manages the Farmers' Markets program and the City's real estate assets such as Bergamot Station  properties.  Additionally, the Division administers commercial assessment districts and business improvement districts, provides information and statistics about Santa Monica, and is involved in business revitalization efforts and projects.  It has management responsibility for the City's vending cart program, outdoor dining licenses, and certain public areas of the Pier and the Third Street Promenade. Housing & Redevelopment Picture of Local Houses

The Housing & Redevelopment Division analyzes policy and manages programs which ensure that Santa Monica preserves and expands affordable housing opportunities for a range of income levels. The division's programs and projects are intended to benefit households with very low, low, and moderate incomes.
 
The division's work plan is diverse, including tenant-based rental assistance, production of new affordable housing, and preservation of existing affordable housing.
 
The division attempts to maximize resources available to the City by working closely with public, private and non-profit partners who are involved in affordable housing as lenders, developers and owner.
