Santa Monica's open space system includes 245 acres of state beach and 26 community parks. The Open Space Management Division  of the Community & Cultural Services Department encourages the enjoyment of the City's parks and beaches through policy development and coordination of all park and beach-based services. The division oversees beach contract services (e.g., beach concessions and lifeguard services) and issues permits for all community events.
