Santa Monica, California – On Saturday, March 8, children and their families are invited to the Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard, for a Super Seuss-a-bration celebrating the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. The celebration runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Various activities are scheduled throughout the day. Children can watch a movie, make their own Seuss-themed crafts, hear actors reading their favorite Dr. Seuss books, get their picture taken with the Cat in the Hat, and enjoy a funny magic show. The program is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica and is recommended for ages 4 and up.

As part of the celebration, children ages 4 to 11 are invited to enter the “Super Seuss-a-bration Challenge.” Those who create a character crazier than a Lorax, a Grinch, a Sneetch, a Zax or a Cat in the Hat, will get a certificate presented to them by the Cat in the Hat on March 8 and their entry will be featured on the library’s website! Entry forms are available now.  Deadline for return of entries is March 1.

The event begins with a screening of the movie, The Cat in the Hat starring Mike Myers (Rated PG) at 10:30 a.m. Crafts, Photos with the Cat in the Hat, and Face Painting follow at 12:30. Actors Lee Arenberg (Pirates of the Caribbean), Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Amy Brenneman (Private Practice), Tuc Watkins (Desperate Housewives) and others read their favorite Dr. Seuss books at 1:30, and at 3:00 the Cat in the Hat will present certificates to children who completed the Super Seuss-a-bration Challenge. The finale to the Super Seuss-a-bration is a comedy magic and juggling variety show starring Abbit the Average.
