STAR WARS 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT THE SANTA MONICA PUBLIC LIBRARY
|

|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE A long time ago (thirty years to be exact) in a galaxy not so far away, the sci-fi adventure Star Wars was released and changed movie history forever. The Santa Monica Public Library celebrates this pop-cultural milestone on Monday, May 21, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., in the Main Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard. On Wednesday, May 25, 1977, a little movie called Star Wars debuted on just 32 screens nationwide, including Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the Avco Cinema Center in Los Angeles. In the few days that followed, word quickly got out that George Lucas’ creative reimagining of science fiction and serial adventure stories had forever redefined the definition of blockbuster moviemaking. To celebrate the movie’s 30th anniversary, the Santa Monica Public Library presents a program that includes a discussion between two Star Wars novelists, Steven Barnes and Michael Reaves, a book sale and signing, as well as prizes, music, Star Wars characters in costume and much more. This program is free and open to all ages. Seating is first come, first served. For more information on this and other Library programs, please call (310) 458-8600 or visit www.smpl.org. ### | |
