They line up in the morning before the doors open, waiting to hit their favorite spot. They come in groups, as a family, as couples, or by themselves. There are worlds to explore, things to learn and important facts to uncover. You can even grab a bite to eat or get a fresh drink. On average, three or four people pass through the doors every minute they are open. They’re coming by the millions.

On Saturday, April 14, the Santa Monica Public Library features "A Million More: Celebrating Our Visitors," from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard. The day’s events celebrate a major milestone as the new library, which opened only 15 months ago, reaches one million visitors.

The event is designed as a free carnival for the entire family with taiko drummers and other live music, games, prizes, food and refreshments. Kids’ activities include storytelling, face painting, crafts, a bubble extravaganza, photos with Woody, the library’s favorite puppet, and more.

For information on this free public celebration, call the Library at (310) 458-8600; or visit our website at www.smpl.org
