SANTA MONICA'S TRANSPORTATION HISTORY FOCUS OF TALK ON FEB. 2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Professor Joseph Schwieterman, a nationally known transportation expert, will give a talk “Trains, Planes & Automobiles: Perspectives on Santa Monica's Rich Transportation History,” on Friday, February 2 at 2 p.m. at the Santa Monica Public Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd. Schwieterman, a professor at DePaul University in Chicago, will offer a fast-paced look at the changing transportation scene, showing the audience vivid scenes of the glory years of the Pacific Electric Railway, the heyday of the Santa Monica Airport, and other highlights from around the region. He will also be signing copies of his book, When the Railroad Leaves Town: American Communities in the Age of Rail Line Abandonment, which has a chapter on Santa Monica.
