NOVEMBER A BLOCKBUSTER MONTH FOR AUTHOR APPEARANCES AT SMPL

November is shaping up to be a blockbuster month for author appearances at the Santa Monica Public Library.  The following free public programs will all take place at the Main Library’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard.  Each program will be followed by a book sale and author signing. 

  • Thursday, November 2, 7:00-9:00 p.m. - The library presents Oscar®-nominated actress Teri Garr in conversation with Arleen Sorkin. Teri Garr is the star of such comedy classics as Tootsie and Young Frankenstein, and the author of the recent autobiography, Speedbumps: Flooring It Through Hollywood.  Ms. Sorkin is a Daytime Emmy®-nominated actress and co-author of My Bad: 25 Years of Public Apologies and the Appalling Behavior That Inspired Them.
     

  • Saturday, November 4, 3:00-5:00 p.m. - Join us for Robert Scheer in conversation with Susan McDougal.  Controversial Whitewater figure Susan McDougal will discuss her book, The Woman Who Wouldn’t Talk: Why I Refused to Testify Against the Clintons and What I Learned In Jail, with political journalist Robert Scheer.
     

  • Monday, November 6, 7:00-9:00 p.m. - Etiquette expert Peggy Post will discuss her recent book, Excuse Me, But I Was Next…: How to Handle the Top 100 Manners Dilemmas.  Ms. Post is the great-granddaughter-in-law of legendary manners expert Emily Post and spokesperson of the Emily Post Institute.
     

  • Thursday, November 9, 7:00-8:30 p.m.-  The author of Work to Live: The Guide to Getting a Life, Joe Robinson, presents "Don’t Miss Your Life," an interactive presentation that will show how to get your life off hold from overwork, busyness, fear and comfort zones and plunge into life immersion. One of the most quoted experts on work-life balance, Joe has appeared on "The Today Show" and CNN; his articles appear regularly in the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
     

  • Monday, November 13, 7:00-9:00 p.m. - Award-winning political journalist and Truthdig.com Editor-In-Chief Robert Scheer, will join us to assess the political landscape following the mid-term elections and to discuss his latest book, Playing President: My Relationships with Nixon, Carter, Bush, Reagan, and Clinton--and How They Did Not Prepare Me for George W. Bush.
     

  • Thursday, November 16, 7:00-9:00 p.m. - The library presents a panel of celebrity biographers, including: Chris Freeman, editor of John Carlyle’s memoir, Under the Rainbow: An Intimate Memoir of Judy Garland, Rock Hudson and My Life in Old Hollywood; Charles Winecoff, author of Split Image: The Life of Anthony Perkins; and Robert Hofler, author of The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson: The Pretty Boys and Dirty Deals of Henry Willson.
