The Santa Monica Public Library has launched free wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) access for the public at its Temporary Main Library and three branch libraries. Using their own laptop computers or PDAs, patrons have access to the Internet, including authoritative, online databases, through the Library's broadband wireless network.

To use the Wi-Fi network, patrons need to have the necessary equipment already installed in their computers. The Library's network operates with 802.11 b and g compatible wireless network card and Local Area Network protocols. Login information is available at Library service desks.

Library users are also able to sign up to use the Internet on select computers at all four Santa Monica Public Library locations. Moreover, the Library's web site offers access from home, work, or school to a host of online research databases in health, science, business, literature, magazines and newspapers at www.smpl.org/research.

For more information, call (310) 458-8600.
