Santa Monica Public Library Celebrates

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Santa Monica marks the hundredth anniversary of the birth of author Christopher Isherwood with two talks and book discussions by Isherwood scholars. Dr. Carola Kaplan, professor of English at California State University at Pomona, presents "The Unaccidental Tourist: Christopher Isherwood in Down There on a Visit" and leads a discussion of Isherwood's 1962 novel on Thursday, September 9, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Montana Avenue Branch Library, 1704 Montana Avenue. James White, author and executive director of the Christopher Isherwood Foundation, presents "Isherwood - A Personal View of his Work," and leads a discussion of the author's 1964 novel, A Single Man, on Saturday, October 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Fairview Branch Library, 2101 Ocean Park Boulevard. Born in England in 1904, Isherwood immigrated to America in 1939 and lived in Santa Monica Canyon until his death in 1986. The featured author for Santa Monica Citywide Reads held last spring, Isherwood's novels published during the 1960s are the focus of the Library's fall 2004 programs.
