Purpose
The
purpose of the Outstanding Woman Leader (OWL) Award is to recognize the
contribution women and girls make to enhance the lives of other women and girls
in the City of Santa Monica.
Eligibility
Criteria
Nominees must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Award:

The candidate has gone
above and beyond in her effort to provide outstanding service to the women
and girls of Santa Monica;
-
She has demonstrated
commitment to women’s issues;
-
She has made a positive
lasting impact on the community; and
-
She does not have to be
a City resident but has done work directly benefiting the women and girls of
Santa Monica.
Nominations are being accepted for both adult women (21 years old or older) and
young women (under 21 years old at the time of nomination).

Selection
Process
The
Commission on the Status of Women’s Outstanding Woman Leader Selection Committee
will:
-
Review every complete
Nomination Form received by the stated deadline
-
Eliminate any candidates
who do not meet the stated eligibility criteria
-
Schedule interviews with
the Nominees
-
Schedule interviews with
each Nominee’s references
-
Rank the candidates in
both the adult and young woman age groups
-
Present the top
candidates in each age group to the full Commission during the July meeting
The
full Commission will then vote to select the 2008 Outstanding Women Leader Award
winners.
Candidate
Notification
-
Winners will be
contacted directly by a member of the Commission on the Status of Women
-
Winners will be
announced via press release in the local press
-
Nominees will be
notified via email or letter and thanked for their community service
Award
Each woman will
be given an award certificate at a ceremony to be scheduled in August or
September and the Commission will make a $100 donation in her name to a charity
of her choice. Photographs of the winners will be taken and displayed on the
Commission’s website and possibly in the local press.
