If there is a crime in progress, someone is behaving
aggressively or threatening someone’s personal
safety, or if some other activity raises your
concern -- call 911. The emergency operator may ask
you about the circumstances while simultaneously
dispatching a police officer to assist with the
situation.
Non Emergency Circumstances
If you see littering, traffic accidents, drinking in
public, hear construction noise, or observe other
activity that infringes on the community’s quality
of life, call one of the following:
-
Police Communication Center at (310) 458-8491. The
Police Communication Center is staffed 24/7 with
experienced operators; or
-
Watch Commander at (310) 458-8427; or
-
Front Desk at (310) 458-8426.
In any event, a police response is completely
dependent on the number of available officers in the
field, balanced against any emergency or
non-emergency calls that are already pending.
Santa Monica Police Department Homeless Liaison
Program (HLP)
Hot Line
When community members observe
non-emergency situations involving
the homeless (camping, sleeping in the doorways,
trespassing, and discarded property, etc.) community
members should call the Santa Monica Police
Department Homeless Liaison Program (HLP) Hot Line at
(310)
458-8953.
-
If a HLP Officer is in the office he/she will
answer any questions and determine the best possible
approach to resolve the situation.
-
If the HLP Officers are not in the office the caller
should leave a detailed message providing such
information as: location of the incident,
description of the involved individual, etc.
-
HLP Officers routinely check the hotline for
messages and respond to calls as soon as
possible.
For short term intervention
(arrest, assistance, or
to summon medical assistance) community members
should call the Police Communication Center at (310)
458-8491, the Watch Commander at (310) 458-8427, or
the Front Office at (310) 458-8426.
