CREST Enrichment Request For Proposal The City of Santa Monica is seeking qualified
businesses or individuals to submit proposals to
conduct before- and after-school CREST Enrichment
classes for students in grades K-8 at Santa Monica
public schools during the 2006-2007 school year.
Proposals are being sought for fall, winter, and
spring session Enrichment classes that meet for one
(1) hour once a week for eight (8) weeks each
session beginning in September 2006. Under the
direction of a professional educator, students will
enhance their school day curriculum and explore
their passions, as well as discover new ones, by
learning innovative, creative, and hands-on
methodology to expand their knowledge of various
subjects in the categories of movement, music, art,
drama, and specialty. See full

Hearing - Annual Review of the City’s Coordinated
Plan for Homeless Services - Read about
the City's efforts to address homelessness in FY
2004-05 and strategies for the next two years in the
staff report prepared for the December 13th public
hearing held in City Council Chambers (item continued from November 8th).
The goal of the public hearing is to assess:
- The impact of the City’s homeless population
on other residents of the City;
- The effectiveness of the delivery of
services to the homeless by the City and various
social service agencies;
- The cost of those services; and
- The changes which should be made in the Plan
in order to carry out its primary goals and
objectives.

City Supports Efforts to Designate VA
Property for Homeless Veterans...
An unprecedented alliance of homeless service organizations, elected
officials and non-profit housing providers have joined forces to propose
that the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration (VA) property be
designated for long-term therapeutic supportive housing for homeless
veterans.
Letters in support can be sent to
Secretary Nicholson of the Veterans Administration at 1722 I Street, NW,
Washington, D.C. 20421.

"Tales from the Trail" Event - September
29 - 7:00 pm
The Commission on the Status of Women will host “Tales
from the Trail,” a discussion with women who have
recently run for public office, on Thursday, September
29 at 7 p.m. at the Ken Edwards Center (1527 4th Street
in Santa Monica). Former candidates participating
include: Patricia Hoffman, Ana Jara, Maria Loya, Susanne
Trimbath and Maria Leon Vasquez. The event is free

Enrichment Registration Extended Thru 9/23-- This fall
CREST Enrichment
rolls
out a wide variety of after-school arts and cultural
classes for Santa Monica children at Santa Monica Public
Elementary schools. Children can take “Ballroom Dance”
in the spirit of the hit movie, “Mad Hot Ballroom” or
learn to write their name in Japanese calligraphy in the
“Japanese Language and Culture” class. Classes begin
