Chrysalis,
an organization that helps to provide comprehensive
employment assistance to low income and homeless
individuals, will open its new facility on September
15th, at 1853 Lincoln Blvd., Santa Monica, CA
90404, just a few doors down from its former
location at 1837 Lincoln Blvd.

Effective September 1st,
OPCC will take over operations of
SAMOSHEL, Santa Monica’s 110-bed homeless
shelter at 505 Olympic Blvd. and its neighbor
program,
SHWASHLOCK, a shower and locker facility,
from The Salvation Army. In January 2006,
SHWASHLOCK will be temporarily relocated next door
to OPCC’s Access Center at 1616 7th Street. After
construction is complete (estimate late summer
2006), OPCC’s Access Center and SHWASHLOCK will move
next to SAMOSHEL to create a centralized site for
homeless intake and services.

In the first week of October,
St. Joseph
Center will temporarily relocate some of
their Venice operations (administrative offices,
senior & family services and food pantry) to the
southeast corner of Pico Blvd. and 4th Street in
Santa Monica while their new headquarters is under
construction in Venice.

WISE America Reads (volunteer tutor program)
is sponsoring 2 trainings for volunteer literacy
tutors for children grades K-5 on September 6 and
22. The classes will be held at the Ken
Edwards Center (1527 4th Street in Santa Monica) and
are open to all volunteers who would like to help
