The Saturday Downtown Market
opened ten years
after the Wednesday
Market in the same
location. As Santa
Monica's second CFM,
it had a different
mission to fulfill.
With the passage of
the California
Organic Foods Act of
1990, consumers were
naturally eager for
more organic produce
and another market
for weekend
shopping. At
present, over sixty
percent of the
produce sold at this
market is grown
organically. This
means it has one of
the highest
concentrations of
organic farmers in
the state. |
