[Street Light]

We are installing metered halogen street and park lights that reduce cost and are more energy efficient.
The average time it takes to trouble shoot, repair and/or replace a defective streetlight is 2 days.

We recycle all scrap wood so it keeps on working for you -- and costs less.

The City of Santa Monica is a busy, dynamic and forward-thinking city dedicated to being a "sustainable community." With a goal of protecting and enhancing the community, the Facilities Management Division is one of the significant tools the city has at its command.
[City Hall]

The Facilities Management Division's mission is to insure that residents, employees, and businesses of Santa Monica have a safe, clean and healthy environment for living, working, and playing. Facilities, one of the busiest divisions in the city, responds to over 4,000 work requests annually, ranging from building inspections to broken plumbing in city-owned buildings to replacing street or park lights, or removing graffiti.

Two areas most observable to city residents are probably street and park lights and graffiti.

  • The city-owned street and park light system has more than 8000 lights connected by 300 Help Stamp Out Graffiti graphicmiles of conduit and 800 miles of wire. It is our job to maintain and repair this complex system. Last year, we repaired or replaced over 700 defective lights.
  • You can help us by reporting a street or park light that is not working properly. Call 458-8529 or click on the graphic on the left of the screen. Your street light will be as good as new in a few days. (Please note that this is for city-owned street and park lights only. Report non-functioning traffic lights at 458-8291.)
  • The city has a very effective anti-graffiti team. There were over 10,250 graffiti removals last year -- 94% of which were removed proactively. On a daily basis, city staff patrol areas of the city frequently tagged with graffiti. We use only environmentally safe products to remove graffiti from buildings, walls, sidewalks, utility poles, benches, and trash bins.
  • Help us keep Santa Monica graffiti-free by calling the Graffiti Hotline at 458-2231 if you see graffiti. Or click on the icon to your right.
  • If your personal property has become a target, the city will assist you. Please note that city staff needs authorization from the owner of the property to remove graffiti. Call the hotline (458-2231) to obtain an authorization/release from liability form.

FACTOIDS!

Santa Monica City Hall has a new coat of paint on the inside and, pending approval, will soon have a new coat of paint on the outside. New flooring and carpeting have been installed in several areas, using only environmentally friendly products, of course. This lovely 1939 Art Deco building, built under the aegis of FDR's Works Project Administration, is viewed with affection by city residents and we regard its preservation as a special trust.

That's not all we do! In addition to facilities maintenance and repair, division personnel provide cost estimates for maintenance and construction projects, manage work by independent contractors, review designs from contractors for new construction, and maintain heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. We maintain over 500 pieces of radio communication equipment, sound systems, and electronic equipment throughout the city.

Facilities Renewal Program - we are developing a comprehensive database and master schedule to provide regular replacement or upgrade of essential components in city facilities. This Facilities Renewal Program will include a master replacement schedule, including costs and a funding mechanism, documentation of annual work plans, and integration of the replacement schedule with the work order system.
