Santa Monica imports 90% of its water from Northern
California and the Colorado River - resources stretched thin by climate change and
the regions increasing population. Pumping water
long distances consumes large amounts of
electricity, generated from the burning of coal or
natural gas, which damages wildlife habitats and
costs billions of dollars annually. The
City has a goal to reduce residential and commercial
water use 20% by 2010. Saving water not only
helps the community and reduces your monthly water
bills, it also reduces pollution. |
