To Go Containers Go Green
Food service providers asked to eliminate non-recyclable plastics
Expanded polystyrene and non-recyclable plastic together make up the largest amount of waste that ends up on Santa Monica’s beaches.  By banning these types of disposable plastic food containers, the ordinance will help to reduce the amount of these materials that pollute Santa Monica’s beaches and the bay.

Business Greening Program

The Business Greening Program helps businesses   increase resource efficiency and "green their bottom- line." The program is FREE to Santa Monica businesses and will save money and time through increased efficiency and employee education.  This one year program provides businesses with the tools they need to implement environmental actions and policies company-wide. The program includes resource use assessments, recommendations and implementation strategies.

Green Business Certification Program

A green business is a smart business, and smart businesses run successful operations while protecting the environment which sustains our economy. In an effort to recognize and certify the outstanding green businesses in our community and promote their services, the City of Santa Monica, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, Sustainable Works and the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau have teamed up to create the Green Business Certification Program. By participating in this program and becoming certified, businesses will enjoy the unique benefits of this select group.

Sustainable Quality Awards

The Santa Monica Sustainable Quality Award was developed in 1995-96 by the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce's Environmental Affairs Committee* to identify and recognize businesses which exhibit an awareness of sustainability in their operating principles.  Businesses of all sizes are eligible for the awards and are encouraged to apply. In order to be recognized with a Sustainable Quality Award, businesses must achieve balanced excellence in three areas:  Economic Development, Social responsibility and Stewardship of the Natural Environment.
